Medicare has different enrollment periods throughout the year. Understanding the different enrollment periods can help you make decisions about your Medicare plan at the correct time. The table below provides a simplified overview of the three main enrollment periods.
3 MONTHS BEFORE & AFTER – YOU TURN 65
Your Medicare IEP is your opportunity to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan when you reach Medicare age. This period lasts for seven months - 3 before, one during, and three after you turn 65.
OCT 15TH – DEC 7TH
During AEP, you can enroll in a new Medicare Advantage Plan available in your area.
JAN 1ST – MAR 31ST
During OEP, you can switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another or revert back to Original Medicare. Only one change can be made during this period.
Any time a Qualifying Event Occurs*
When a qualifying event occurs, you become eligible for a Special Enrollment Period and can enroll in a new Medicare Advantage plan. Qualifying events include things like moving, losing group coverage, having both Medicare and Medicaid, or being diagnosed with a chronic condition.
